What the calibration covers

How often should a multimeter be calibrated?
Twelve months is the near-universal manufacturer and quality-system default. Meters used daily on site, exposed to heat and vibration, or used for safety-critical measurements are often placed on a shorter interval.
Why multimeters drift
A multimeter's accuracy rests on precision resistor networks and a voltage reference that age with time and temperature. Dropped meters, blown fuses replaced with the wrong rating, and years in a hot van all move the readings — usually slowly enough that nobody notices until an audit or a disputed measurement.
