Multimeter calibration for construction
Commissioning electricians on Perth construction sites rely on their multimeters to verify supply voltages and polarity before energising, and principal contractors now ask for calibration certificates alongside test & tag records.
The multimeter is the instrument most electricians and technicians trust without thinking about it, which is exactly why it needs a traceable calibration. AmpTech calibrates handheld and bench digital multimeters in our Caversham lab against reference standards traceable to national standards, and returns them with a certificate showing where each range sat before and after adjustment.

Setting the interval
Twelve months is the near-universal manufacturer and quality-system default. Meters used daily on site, exposed to heat and vibration, or used for safety-critical measurements are often placed on a shorter interval.
What the calibration covers
- DC voltage at points across each range, from millivolts to the top of the highest range
- AC voltage at several amplitudes and at mains and higher test frequencies
- DC and AC current on every current range, including the milliamp and microamp ranges
- Resistance from a short-circuit zero through each range
- Frequency, and capacitance where the meter offers it
- Continuity beeper threshold and diode test function
What your certificate records
The certificate format construction procurement and audit teams ask for: the equipment under test, its serial number, the reference instruments used, as-found and as-left readings, environmental conditions and a traceability statement, plus the multimeter-specific items below.
