Dial indicator calibration in Perth
Plunger and lever-type dial indicators and digital indicators checked across their travel, including repeatability and hysteresis.
Dial indicators measure runout, flatness and small displacements where a few hundredths matter. AmpTech calibrates plunger and lever-type dial indicators and digital indicators in our Caversham lab, checking the reading against traceable references at points across the travel in both directions.
Types of dial and digital indicators we calibrate
- Plunger-type dial indicators (0.01 mm and 0.001 mm)
- Lever-type (dial test) indicators
- Digital indicators
- Long-travel and back-plunger indicators
What the calibration covers
- Reading at points across the travel against a traceable reference, in the rising and falling directions
- Hysteresis — the difference between rising and falling readings at the same point
- Repeatability at a fixed point
- Zero return and free movement of the plunger or lever
- Dial or display condition and bezel operation

How often should a dial indicator be calibrated?
Twelve months is standard for indicators in general workshop use. Indicators built into fixtures on a production line, where the reading is the accept/reject decision, are often kept on 6 months.
Why dial and digital indicators drift
Indicators are gear trains, and gear trains wear. Sticking plungers, bent stems from side loads and contaminated pivots all show up as hysteresis and poor repeatability long before the dial looks worn — which is why the calibration checks both directions of travel rather than a single reading.
What your certificate records
- As-found and as-left readings at each point in rising and falling directions
- Hysteresis and repeatability results
- Reference standards used, with traceability
- Environmental conditions at the time of calibration
References we work to
- Manufacturer's published accuracy specification for the model
- ISO 9001 clause 7.1.5 — monitoring and measuring resources
Calibrated in our Caversham lab
Dial indicator calibration is bench work, so it happens in our lab rather than at your premises. Drop instruments in, bookpickup & drop-off across Perth, or freight them from regional WA. Every certificate is issued under our ISO 9001 certified quality management system and is traceable to national standards.
