Height gauge calibration for manufacturing

Height gauges sit at the inspection bench of every Perth machine shop and fabrication workshop, and their readings appear in first-article and in-process inspection records that customers and auditors review.

Height gauges do the marking-out and inspection work on the surface plate, and their accuracy decides whether a part is accepted. AmpTech calibrates vernier, dial and digital height gauges in our Caversham lab against a 112-piece gauge block set traceable to national standards, at points across the range.

Interval in manufacturing

12 months

ISO 9001; gauge control plan

Setting the interval

Twelve months is standard. Bore gauges used for close-tolerance bore inspection are often kept on 6 months, with a ring-gauge check between calibrations.

What the calibration covers

  • Reading against gauge blocks on a surface plate at points across the range
  • Scriber and probe condition, and squareness of the beam to the base
  • Zero setting and slide movement along the column
  • Repeatability at a fixed height

What your certificate records

The certificate format manufacturing procurement and audit teams ask for: the equipment under test, its serial number, the reference instruments used, as-found and as-left readings, environmental conditions and a traceability statement, plus the height gauge-specific items below.

  • As-found and as-left readings at each height checked
  • Squareness and base condition observations
  • Gauge blocks used, with their traceability
  • Environmental conditions at the time of calibration

Standards & frameworks in manufacturing

  • ISO 9001 quality management system
  • ISO 10012 (referenced) — measurement management
  • AS/NZS 3760 for portable electrical equipment on plant
  • Customer-specific PPAP / quality requirements

How manufacturing clients get height gauges to us

Calibration is performed in our Caversham lab — not on site. We collect from and deliver back to manufacturing workshops and offices across Perth, and instruments from regional sites come by freight or via your Perth base.

  • Canning Vale and Bibra Lake manufacturing precincts
  • Welshpool and Kewdale fabrication and assembly workshops
  • Malaga light industrial and trade workshops
  • Osborne Park commercial and QC laboratories

Working with manufacturing procurement

We work with quality and production teams to align calibration intervals with your control plan, supply certificates that map directly to your gauge register, and schedule recall reminders so nothing falls out of cal during a production run.

FAQ

Height gauge calibration for manufacturing FAQs

We only use the height gauge occasionally — does it still need annual calibration?
If its readings go into inspection records, yes. Occasional use slows wear but does not stop a base or column drifting out of square, and an auditor will still expect a current certificate.
Do you calibrate bore gauges as well?
Not at present. A dial bore gauge is set against calibrated ring gauges, which are different reference standards from the gauge blocks used for external and height measurement. Our dimensional scope is external length and height.
Can you calibrate a large height gauge?
Yes. Tell us the range when you book so we can confirm the gauge blocks and surface-plate capacity cover it.
